How are Credit Unions Different from Banks?

Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned financial institutions that exist to serve the financial needs of their member owners. Credit unions are owned by their members and governed in a democratic way by a volunteer board of directors who are also members of the credit union. Credit union elections are based on a one-member, one-vote philosophy. Banks are governed by paid shareholders. Voting rights depend on the number of shares owned. Since dividends are not paid to investor shareholders and our Board of Directors are all unpaid volunteers, that money comes back to YOU, our member-owners, in the form of higher rates on deposit accounts.  Their main focus is their members and their local community.

Who May join

Membership is open to all employees of the Union Pacific Railroad and their immediate families. Immediate family includes spouses, children, parents, siblings and grand parents. Once you are a member you will always be a member, even if you move, change jobs or retire. We have members all over the United States so there is no need to ever leave the credit union family. We can transact all business by phone, US Mail or electronically.

How to Join

To become a member/owner of the Dallas U.P. Employees Credit Union, simply complete a membership application and make an initial deposit of $25.00 plus a $1.00 new member fee. We will also need to collect some personal information that will allow us to verify your identity as well as a legible copy of your driver's license to keep on file. You may come into the Credit Union office at Miller Yard or you may complete the information below.

Important information about procedures for opening a new account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account at Dallas U.P. Employees Credit Union.

When you open an account, we will ask you for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will also for a legible copy of your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

If you presently have an account with us and you open additional accounts, add joint owners to an existing account or apply for a loan, we must also verify and retain copies of your identification.

We ask for your understanding as we work to support these efforts to maintain the security of your funds and our country. Please see our USA Patriot Act Disclosure for more information
